How to Arrange Letters Into Words
Arranging letters into words means finding every valid English word hidden within a set of letters. The challenge is that the number of possible arrangements grows exponentially with letter count — 5 letters have 120 possible orderings, 7 letters have 5,040, and 10 letters have over 3.6 million.
SmartUnscramble handles all of that automatically. You type the letters, press Search, and the tool checks every arrangement against 270,000+ real words instantly. You get the full list of valid words sorted from shortest to longest, with Scrabble point values for each result.
How to Use the Arrange Words Tool
- 1
Type your letters
Enter the letters you want to arrange into the search box. You can enter 2 to 15+ letters. Repeat letters work correctly — if you have two S's, words that use two S's will appear.
- 2
Press Search
Hit Enter or tap the Search button. The arranger checks every possible arrangement in under one second and shows you all valid words.
- 3
Filter by length
Use the length tabs (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8+) to see only words of a specific length. This is essential when you need to fill a specific board position in Scrabble or find the answer to a specific-length puzzle.
- 4
Pick the best word for your game
For Scrabble and Words With Friends, look for the highest-scoring word. For word puzzles, match the result to the answer length. For Wordle, filter to length 5 and check against your known letters.

Best Tips for Arranging Letters Into Words
Start with common endings
-ING, -ED, -ER, -LY, -TION. Spot one of these in your letters and build the word from that ending backward. Most long words in English end with one of a handful of suffixes.
Separate vowels from consonants
Write your vowels (A, E, I, O, U) and consonants separately. Look for consonant clusters that start words: ST, CR, TR, BL, SH, TH. Then fit your vowels in.
Look for Q, Z, X, J first
These high-value letters are hardest to place. Find words that use them before planning other words. In Scrabble, building around a Q or Z often yields the highest single-play score.
Use the length filter strategically
Don't just scan all results. Know the length you need (board slot, puzzle answer, game requirement) and filter to that length immediately. It's 10x faster than reading every result.
